Long ago in 2007, when the first iPhone was launched, everybody at Nokia thought that it is going to take a very long time for this new kid on the block to come in real competition with the GIANT. They were busy making a self-proclaimed, before-its-time internet tablet which was based on debian linux (later Maemo, MeeGo).
If the rumors are correct, then Nokia had a perfectly working “touch based” Symbian phone during early 2003 but it was only in early 2009 when they shipped their first touch screen device for all the markets (we might want to forget Nokia 7710, which was launched during 2004).
